Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 21/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 21/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons water
  • Colored sugar and sprinkles for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with 1-1/4 cups of confectioners' sugar and salt until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour until just combined; avoid overmixing. If dough is too soft, chill it for about 30 minutes.
  4. Pack dough into a cookie press and shape onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them two inches apart.
  5. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until set but still pale at the edges. Let cool before glazing.
  6. For the glaze, mix remaining confectioners' sugar with water until smooth; dip cooled cookies in glaze and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
