  • 1 3/4 lb gala apples (4-6)
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp apple pie spice
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (additional)
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice (additional)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into bite-sized pieces. Sauté them in melted butter over medium heat with brown sugar and apple pie spice until softened.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, additional brown sugar, and spices until smooth.
  4. Cube the French baguette and combine it with the custard mixture. Allow it to soak for about 10 minutes before gently folding in the sautéed apples.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish and bake for approximately 50–55 minutes or until golden brown.
