Ingredients

  • Active sourdough starter
  • Warm milk
  • Dark brown sugar
  • Unsalted butter
  • Salt
  • Large egg
  • Bread flour
  • Heavy cream
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine active sourdough starter, dark brown sugar, and warm milk; mix until combined.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, and egg; blend well.
  3. Gradually mix in bread flour until a tacky dough forms.
  4. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 6-7 hours or until doubled.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
  7. Roll tightly and cut into 9 equal pieces; place in a greased pan.
  8. Let the rolls rise for an additional 3-4 hours.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and pour warm heavy cream over the rolls before baking for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. For frosting, whip together softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, powdered sugar, and heavy cream until smooth; frost warm rolls.
