Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until no flour streaks remain; the dough will be soft and sticky.
  6. Chill the dough covered in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat generously in powdered sugar.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack.
