  • 1 lb smoked sausage (turkey sausage), sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked long grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Sear sliced sausage in olive oil over medium-high heat until browned (about 5 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Toast the uncooked rice in the skillet for about 2-3 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. Pour in chicken broth and barbecue sauce; return the sausage to the pan.
  5. Bring to a simmer, cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  6. Let rest covered for another 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
