  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water (105°F-115°F)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup shortening (melted)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar + 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar mixture)
  • 4 2/3 cups powdered sugar + 2 1/2 tablespoons honey + melted butter + vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the warm water, honey, egg, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 8 minutes).
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture, roll it tightly, and cut into pieces.
  7. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise again for about 45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, honey, melted butter, and vanilla; drizzle over warm buns.
