  • 360 g black coffee
  • 360 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 g granulated sugar
  • 150 g dark brown sugar
  • 75 g unsweetened Dutch cocoa powder
  • 165 g vegetable oil
  • 270 g sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 400 g butter (for frosting)
  • 660 g powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugars, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and black coffee until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients; mix on medium speed until just combined.
  5. Divide batter evenly among the pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in pans before transferring to cooling racks.
  7. For the buttercream, beat room-temperature butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and coffee until light and fluffy.
  8. Once cooled, frost each layer with buttercream and stack them.
