  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm water with yeast and sugar; let it sit until foamy.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise in an oiled bowl covered with a damp towel for 1-1½ hours.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into eight portions. Shape each portion into pretzels.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Boil water with baking soda; cook each pretzel for 30 seconds before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mix. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
