  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. For the apple filling, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, water, and salt; simmer for 5-7 minutes until apples soften.
  3. For the oatmeal base, mix flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Incorporate cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press half of the oatmeal mixture into the baking dish, layer with apple filling, then top with remaining oatmeal mixture.
  5. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown. Cool before cutting into squares.
